Halcyon Inter-Professional & Inter-Hong Bridge Championship

On behalf of the Hong Kong Contract Bridge Association, I extend our invitation to your participation in Halcyon Inter-Professional & Inter-Hong Bridge Championship to be held on July 26, 2016 at Regal Hong Kong Hotel in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. 

 

Halcyon Inter-Professional and Inter-Hong Bridge Championship is an invitational event organised for Bridge Players from different fields or professions. With the welcoming yet exciting atmosphere, we hope all the participants will have a wonderful bridge night with their partners and opponents. 

 

Players of each team must be:

‧   Current Staff / Retired Staff / Consultant of a same company or corporation
‧   Member / Staff / Consultant of a same registered professional association*
‧   Current Staff / Retired Staff / Consultant of government entity or public organization

*not including contract bridge club / organization

 

Each party may send up to 3 teams to participate. Along with the application form, please also enclose the relevant proof, e.g. Business Cards, Websites, Staff / Membership Cards. A confirmation will be sent within 3 days upon the receipt of your application.

 

Schedule is as following:
6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Registration
6:45 p.m. to 10:15 p.m.   Tournament
10:30 p.m. Prize award

 

Prizes will be given to top scoring three teams. 

 

Each organization may send up to 3 teams to participate.  The entry fee per team is HKD1000.  Pre-registration and payment is necessary by July 10, 2016.

Special offer to Secondary students in the bridge year 2016-17

In order to encourage more young players to play bridge, the HKCBA Council has proposed a trial run on a special offer for full time secondary students. If a secondary student would like to play in any HKCBA pairs events, his/her tournament fee will be waived if:
 
(1) He/She is a youth member (i.e. pay $100 membership fee for 2016-2017 bridge year)
(2) He/She presents his/her secondary school full time identification such as student card, student handbook
 
This special offer is not applicable to Mixed Pairs and Ladies Pairs.

Tournament Director Training Programme 2016

Objective
 
To conduct a training programme including lectures and practical for interested members to become
HKCBA qualified tournament directors.
 
Programme details
 
Basic knowledge and techniques adequate for running a typical event will be covered in 4 main
aspects, including Laws, Movements & Tournament Administration, Scoring and Ethics &
Proprieties. Unless otherwise exempted by the Board, all candidates shall attend ALL lectures.
They will then be allowed to sit in a written examination. The passing mark of each of the 4 parts
and the practical will be 75%.
 
Candidates passing the written examination will be assigned appropriate practical training sessions
as apprentices to allow them to apply their learning to obtain hands-on experience under
supervision. Apprentices will be assessed on their performance for 6 practical sessions on all 4
aspects covered in the lectures. Apprentices who have successfully completed the practical training
programme will be qualified by the Board as HKCBA tournament directors. A certificate will be
presented to each qualified director.
 
The training programme is only open to bona fide members of the HKCBA who have an interest in
serving as tournament directors, and should have good knowledge of duplicate bridge techniques.

All participants in the session are expected to serve as Tournament Directors in some regular events
for the HKCBA. Details will be announced by Tournament Operations Sub-Committee.
$300 will be refunded if the participant can pass the examination and participate in sufficient events
assigned by the Tournament Operations Sub-Committee.
