Incident about The International Bridge Elite Invitational (22nd to 23rd October 2025)
2025-10-27

The council received an enquiry about the nomination mechanism of players participating in the captioned event.

Having checked the records, the following have been discovered:

1. On 12 March, the HKCBA was invited by CCBA regarding the captioned event.

2. On 7 April, the council replied CCBA that we will send a team.

3. On 7 April, the council requested a council member to issue a news on our webpage to inform members about the event and the selection method (by Trial Points).

4. However, the news was NOT issued due to a technical problem of the website, but no council member was aware of this technical fault.

5. On 12 May, the council discussed if anyone applied for the event and found out that no email was received (due to the technical fault mentioned above).

6. as no nomination was received, the council appointed 4 players (2 of them are current council members) to form a team to participate in the captioned event, as the council had promised CCBA to send a team on 7 April.

The council regrets this mistake, which is due to a technical problem with the website, as well as the imperfection of the nomination mechanism.

To avoid a similar problem happening again, the council will -

1) launch a new website between late 2025 and Q1 2026 (tentatively) to avoid the technical issues;

2) request council members who are responsible to make announcements to issue relevant news on time;

3) develop a mechanism to cross check if relevant news is issued properly; and

4) ask relevant council members to double-check if the news have been issued properly and no nomination have been received but overlooked, before making a nomination.

The Council apologies for any inconvenience caused.
