Causeway Bay

Causeway Bay is one of Hong Kong's major shopping districts. It is also one of Hong Kong's most crowded areas. Major shopping complexes and malls include Hysan Place, the Japanese department store Sogo, Times Square, World Trade Centre, Windsor House, Hang Lung Centre, Fashion Island, Fashion Walk, Lee Gardens and Lee Gardens Two. Causeway Bay contains many trendy shops carrying both locally made fashion and products from Japan, Europe and the United States. It is a popular social spot for young people. Many shops are open until well after midnight.

For years, Jardine Matheson has fired a cannon shot at noon every day in Causeway Bay, slightly eastward of the former Kellett Island. The gunshots have served as time signals for many generations of old inhabitants of Hong Kong. This tradition still continues today. This is the "Noonday Gun" mentioned in the Noel Coward song "Mad Dogs and Englishmen".

Causeway Bay offers good food with a "true Hong Kong" ambience. Many budget eateries featuring local snacks can be found along Jardine's Bazaar, Tang Lung and Matheson streets. Sample Hong Kong-style tea, available at most of these eateries, and you will leave with fond memories of its richness and aroma. Brilliantly lit, many of the food stalls stay open until the early hours to cater to late diners.

Bars, sushi parlours and other fine eateries in the Lee Garden Road area (along Yun Ping Road, Kai Chiu Road, Pak Sha Road, Lan Fong Road, Hysan Avenue, Sunning Road, Hoi Ping Road and Yiu Wa Street) offer a mouth-watering alternative for an evening out. Sip a refreshing beer at the pub as the sun sets; then enjoy dinner at one of the many cosy restaurants at your service.
